Course Overview

The behavioral assessment of hearing in children requires interpersonal skills, knowledge of human auditory development, and application of evidence-based testing protocols. This Learning Experience will include 4 weeks of learning for audiology and LSL interventionists and will focus on the behavioral assessment of hearing in children within the context of family-centered, pediatric hearing healthcare. Throughout the course, participants will be exposed to the evidence base for behavioral methods and the learning activities will focus on clinical applications. The course emphasizes developmentally-informed strategies that can be incorporated into hearing evaluations for infants and young children (under 5 years of age), including those with developmental differences. How behavioral testing is incorporated into the pediatric diagnostic battery will be discussed. Finally, the instructors will address the role of multidisciplinary collaboration in promoting positive outcomes for children and their families.
