Age Child Began LSL Intervention: 4 weeks

Intervention Setting: Clinic setting, child in high chair with both parents

Session Features:

1. How to use parents as models for expected behaviors of the child.

2. How to explain concepts to parents

3. How to develop play, book, and snack routines.

4. How to read a book to a toddler.

5. How to teach parents to go from open set to closed set questions.

6. How to incorporate choice-making into routines of daily living.

7. Great discussion with parents about how hearing aids are not optional.

8. Counseling about increasing wear time, from data logging.

About LSL Intervention Observation Courses

Engaging and equipping families of young children who are deaf or hard of hearing is fundamental to delivering family-centered listening and spoken language (LSL) early intervention. LSL interventionists build the capacity of family members to promote their child’s auditory, speech and language skills in the everyday routines of family life.

Learners will observe best practices for guiding and coaching families. This experience is designed to deepen understanding of why specific goals, strategies and activities are used based on a specific child and family’s needs.

Expanded to include two weeks of pre-learning with one 60-minute live session recording to maximize and deepen the learning as follows:

Lesson 1: Observe and analyze excerpts of an LSLS Cert. AVT intervention session to: identify and understand use of specific LSL strategies and techniques; diagnostically determine a child’s current level of functioning and identify and understand use of specific parent coaching techniques.

Lesson 2: Observe a video of an entire LSL intervention session to understand how to: organize a session to optimize parent coaching and guidance; implement intervention goals and objectives to support the child's level of development; use LSL strategies and techniques in developmentally appropriate teaching activities; and have as an option the opportunity to complete Academy Form C-3 prior to reviewing the live session recording for further discussion with the LSLS professional.
