Here are definitions of many of the terms we use in these FAQs and in Hearing First learning experiences.
C-3 Form: A form that offers Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS) Certified Professionals an opportunity to receive credit toward the required 10 hours of live or recorded structured observation for (re)certification.
Certificate of Completion: An electronic certificate that Hearing First provides after you meet all criteria for completing a learning experience. The certificate includes all appropriate learning experience organization codes, and you can use this certificate for all CEU requirements for any professional organization deemed appropriate to your credentials.
CEUs: Continuing Education Units you can earn through Hearing First and submit to professional organizations such as the Alexander Graham Bell Academy for Listening and Spoken Language® (AG Bell) and the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) as proof of your continuing education.
Community homepage: The starting page for the Professional Learning Community or the Family Support Community. These pages are your entryway to discussions with other professionals, families, and with Hearing First, as well as to many Hearing First learning experiences.
Course homepage: The starting page for a Hearing First learning experience or video observation. This page provides information on specific learning experiences, including course requirements, pre-learning materials, learner discussions, access to live sessions and session recordings, and links to earned Certificates of Completion.
Hearing First course: A multi-week learning experience or video observation.
Hearing First Learning Experience: A learning opportunity provided by Hearing First free of charge. Hearing First learning experiences include multi-week courses, video observations, and webinars.
Hearing First webinar: A single-session learning opportunity, usually with no pre-learning requirements.
Hearing First community: Online discussion areas for professionals and families to learn from and share ideas and experiences with each other. The two Hearing First communities are the Professional Learning Community (PLC) and the Family Support Community (FSC).
Live interactive session: All Hearing First courses include at least one online session where course facilitators and learners meet to discuss pre-learning, gain and reinforce knowledge, and share knowledge with each other.
Pre-learning: All Hearing First courses provide several days before each live session for learners to review learning content such as readings and videos, complete and submit assignments, and engage in discussions before and after live sessions.
