In this learning experience, you’ll enhance your professional practice and develop strengths-based skills for your coaching and mentoring partnerships, whether parent or professional! You’ll acquire and apply knowledge of adult learning theory, fundamentals of instructing, consulting, evaluating, mentoring, and evocative coaching. You’ll also improve your strategies for listening, expressing empathy, asking open ended questions, brainstorming, and designing experiments. This experience is designed to equip you with the essential knowledge that is the foundation for successfully supporting professionals seeking LSLS Certification from the AG Bell Academy for Listening and Spoken Language® as well as parents of children with hearing loss.
Beth Walker Wooten, M.Ed., C.E.D., LSLS Cert. AVT, is the Coordinator for Hearing First's Professional Learning Community. Beth has been teaching and learning from children with hearing loss and their parents for over 35 years, working in schools, clinics, homes, and through tele-intervention. She is currently a practicing LSL specialist, mentor, and educational consultant in private practice, with a zeal for coaching and mentoring aspiring LSL professionals. She lives with her husband and four sons in a testosterone cloud in Alabama. Ashley S, Garber, M.S. CCC-SLP, LSLS Cert. AVT has spent the last 20+ years working to accelerate spoken language outcomes for children and adults who are deaf or hard of hearing, both in clinical practice and through professional teaching and consulting activities. In her practice, LSL Learning Partners, LLC, she now focuses specifically on LSL mentoring, organizational consulting, and content development with an eye toward practical applications of LSL concepts. As a speaker and mentor, in her former role as educational consultant to the Cochlear Americas’ HOPE Program, and currently as a collaborator with HearingFirst.org, she has had the opportunity to lead and learn from professionals across the country as well as internationally.
Learners who request CE credits but do not complete all course requirements will receive an email communication at the end of the course. No partial credit will be awarded.

Live interactive sessions are held on Adobe Connect, our virtual classroom where you’ll engage with a facilitator. Live sessions are captioned in real-time
and recordings are available for review following the session.
Participate in the full live session each week in Adobe Connect. The link will be available on the course homepage on the day of each session.
Use a tablet, desktop or laptop computer, not your mobile device.
Test your connection and sign in early. The Adobe Connect room opens 20 minutes before the live session starts.
Use the chat feature. If you have connectivity or tracking issues, this serves as our only other record of your attendance in the Adobe Connect live session. You’ll need to:
Introduce yourself in the chat once you login.
Participate in all questions and polls during the session.
Add your name to chat before signing out when the session ends.
Complete the self-assessment and course evaluation survey. The link is emailed the day after the course close date. You may return to the course homepage to access the link. Surveys will not be accepted after the 2-week deadline.
After completing the survey you’ll receive an email with a link to the course homepage to download a customized Certificate of Completion.
Continuing education credits are offered for this learning experience. Although there’s no cost to you as a participant to register or earn credit for this course, your full commitment to participate and engage in the learning is considered your contribution.

Hearing First courses are offered in English and include a private group space to access all your learning throughout the course.
To participate in a Hearing First learning experience, all learners must first join their respective community (Professional Learning Community or Family Support Community).
Members can access all of their registered learning experiences (upcoming, current, and completed) through the learning dashboard after logging into their community.
Stay current with all the latest annoucements, information, and learning progress on your course’s homepage. You can also expect several emails from us during the course.

Hearing First is approved by the AG Bell Academy for Listening and Spoken Language to offer Continuing Education Hours for Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS) certification.
