Overview

This learning experience, initially aired in March 2022, is led by a developmental and behavioral pediatrician regarding prevalence, prevention, and manifestation of cytomegalovirus - a common viral infection that may cause hearing loss in children. You’ll receive both a medical perspective, based on her role as Director of a Congenital CMV Developmental Follow-Up Clinic, as well as a personal perspective, based on her role as the proud mother of a daughter with profound bilateral sensorineural hearing loss from congenital CMV.

Featuring

Megan Pesch MD, MS

Megan Pesch, MD, MS is an Assistant Professor of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at the University of Michigan where she is the Director of the Congenital CMV Developmental Follow-up Clinic. She also serves as the President-elect of the National CMV Foundation and is involved in national efforts towards newborn CMV screening. Her clinical interests include the early diagnosis and treatment of congenital CMV using a multidisciplinary approach with a focus on family care and support. Dr. Pesch’s research focuses on healthcare provider practices around congenital CMV diagnosis and management and understanding the relationship between autism and CMV. Most importantly, she is the proud mother of three little girls, the youngest of whom has profound bilateral sensorineural hearing loss from congenital CMV.

Financial Disclosures: Dr. Megan Pesch receives compensation as Assistant Professor of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at the University of Michigan and as Director of the Congenital CMV Developmental Follow-up Clinic. She also receives an honorarium from MedScape, consulting fees from DiaSorin Molecular, and a grant from the Gerber Foundation.

Non-financial disclosures: Dr. Pesch serves as the President-elect of the National CMV Foundation. Her youngest child has profound bilateral sensorineural hearing loss from congenital CMV.
