How To: Use Play-By-Play with Other LSL Strategies

You can combine it with Play-By-Play to make even more learning opportunities for your baby:

• Let your baby hear a word before you show it to them – and then take an extra step to describe what they see.
• You could say, “I’m gonna get your toes.” Pause and wait for your baby to listen and process. Then, as you reach for their toes, say, “I got your little wiggly toes!”

• Take turns with your baby! Follow their lead and let their actions start the conversation.
• Give a play-by-play about what your baby is doing, noticing, saying, or feeling.
• If your baby squeals in joy, give a play-by-play. You could say, “You’re so excited! You just love your mobile. It’s spinning around and around!”
• Remember to pause and wait to give your baby a turn in the conversation. You could say, “We put on your little shirt, now what?” Pause, wait, and look at your baby. Your baby may coo or gurgle. Keep going with the Play-By-Play strategy by saying, “OK, let’s get your pants.”
