Before your baby sees the cover of the book, use the Hear It Before They See It strategy by talking about the cover. For example, you could say, "Oh, this is a book about a doggie. He says, 'Woof, woof.'"
As you read the book, continue to use the strategy before you turn the pages. Talk about the next page before flipping to it.
Before patting the dog on the book, talk about it first. You could start by saying, "Pat, pat, pat the doggie." Pause and wait, then say, "I'm patting the doggie," as you show the action, matching your words to what you do.
