Put the Hear It Before They See It strategy into action.

With this simple strategy, you’re helping your baby build lasting connections in their brain for listening. You’re also helping your little one strengthen their listening skills before using their other senses to learn.

It's your turn!

Try playing the LSL way with your baby as you enjoy a game of peek-a-boo together. Remember to pause and observe how your baby responds as you try out the Hear It Before They See It strategy.

What Do You Notice?

What you observe matters! Take note of what your baby is doing as you play the LSL way together and share your thoughts with your LSL interventionist and professional team.

  • When you use the Hear It Before They See It strategy with your baby by pausing and waiting, how does your baby show that they heard you?
  • During play, when you repeat the same game, like peek-a-boo, how do your baby’s responses change over time? Maybe they show excitement, look for a toy near them, or start to do the motions with a song.
  • Keep track of different kinds of sounds or routine games your baby responds to when they Hear It Before They See It. If your baby doesn’t respond to certain sounds, share this with your LSL interventionist and pediatric audiologist.
