Review the key points you learned throughout this lesson:

  • Children who wear their hearing devices for 10+ hours each day make the most progress in learning to listen and talk.
  • One of the most important things you can do to support your baby with hearing loss on their journey to listening and talking is to make sure that when their eyes are open, their hearing devices are on so they can hear ALL the sounds of speech around them.
  • When you talk, read, sing, and play with your baby, you add meaning to the sounds that they hear. You can even take a listening walk around your house, point out sounds, and name them to help grow their vocabulary and listening skills!
  • Persistence matters! If your baby’s devices fall off or if they take them off, quickly and calmly put the devices back on (no matter how many times it happens!). There are also lots of tools and accessories you can use to help keep those devices on your baby’s ears.
  • It’s important to share your commitment to “Eyes Open, Ears On” with your baby’s caregivers so they can work together with you to support your little one’s device wear time. This ensures your baby doesn’t miss a moment of listening and learning!
