How To: Put Your Baby’s Devices On

At first, putting your baby’s devices on may feel new, but with practice, it will become a regular part of your routine.

You’ll put your baby’s devices on as soon as they wake up, after naps, and any time your little one removes them.

It’s normal for your baby to fuss a little when you put the earmolds in, but with consistent practice, this step will soon become a regular part of your routine. Know that the earmolds and hearing devices won’t hurt your baby’s ears.

Follow these steps to guide you through putting your baby’s devices on:

  • Be sure the hearing aids are checked and ready – ideally before your baby wakes up.
  • When your baby wakes up, greet them with excitement and put their hearing aids on right away so they can hear everything you say.
  • Line the earmold up to your baby’s ear.
  • Put the earmold in your baby’s ear. It helps to turn the earmold slightly as you put it in their ear canal.
  • Then, gently push the earmold so that it fits securely in their ear canal.
  • Put the hearing aid behind your baby’s ear and make sure both hearing aids are turned on.
  • Look for any gaps between your baby’s earmold and ear.
  • If you notice gaps, it’s time for a new earmold. Be sure to schedule an appointment with your baby’s pediatric audiologist as soon as possible.
  • Start talking and singing songs with your baby as they wear their hearing aids and watch them light up to your voice!
  • If hearing aid feedback (squealing) is an issue, you can put the devices on your baby first and then turn them on.
