Infographic: Tips for Keeping Hearing Devices on Little Ears

“Make sure your child wears their hearing devices during all waking hours” is the recommendation every parent hears from their pediatric audiologist. But keeping your baby’s curious hands away from their devices can be tricky!

No matter how many times they take them off, it’s important that you stick with it. Your persistence will pay off so your child can hear and experience all the sounds around them, including your voice when you say “I love you” or sing a lullaby. Successful wear-time is essential for your child to learn to listen, talk, read, and thrive.

Most babies and toddlers go through this phase so know that you’re not alone. Soon your child will love their devices and start asking for them as soon as they wake up. In the meantime, we’ve got some helpful tips for keeping hearing devices on your child. Keep reading to get answers to your questions like, “How long should my child wear their devices?” and “What can I do to keep devices on their ears?”

Wear time matters! Make a commitment to keep the devices on your child, and ask all family and caregivers to do the same.

While most babies and toddlers go through a phase of pulling their hearing devices off, if it happens often, there could be an underlying problem, such as a poor earmold fit or an ear infection. Talk with your LSL professional and your pediatric audiologist about any questions or concerns. Don't delay! Every second of hearing matters. Your baby’s brain development depends on it.
