Growing Literacy Skills: Tips for Professionals

Learn practical tips to make reading exciting, engaging, and relevant for children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families by downloading our free eBook, Growing Listening, Language and Literacy Skills: Tips for LSL Interventionists. Read below to learn how!

As LSL Interventionists we want children who are deaf or hard of hearing to achieve grade-level reading by third grade, equivalent to their hearing friends.

We know one of the best ways to accomplish this goal is through daily reading. As simple as it sounds, coaching parents for their child to wear their hearing technology all waking hours and to read to their child every day are ways to set families up for success with reading and learning.

With that in mind, we want to support you in your work with families! Hearing First's Growing Listening, Language, and Literacy Skills: Tips for LSL Interventionists eBook gives needed tools for you to apply in your LSL intervention sessions. Our hope behind this eBook is that the information will be a new tool to support you as you encourage and engage families, giving you some of the talking points you need to help them grow listening, language and literacy skills for their child with hearing loss.

Featuring practical tips to make reading exciting, engaging, and relevant, this eBook combines our best ideas paired with family handouts to tangibly empower you:

  • Chapter 1: Read Together Learn Together
  • Chapter 2: The Benefits of Books with Repeatable Lines
  • Chapter 3: How to Make Your Own Flap Books
  • Chapter 4: How to Make Your Own Experience Books
  • Chapter 5: Reluctant Reader

Behind each page of the eBook is our belief: practice makes better. We hope these workable techniques will lead to meaningful interactions with the children and families you serve. Download our free eBook, Growing Listening, Language and Literacy Skills: Tips for LSL Interventionists now.
