Dr. Zwolan will be accepting a new role at Cochlear Americas

PHILADELPHIA, October 11, 2022 – Hearing First, a nonprofit dedicated to providing support for families seeking a Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) outcome for their child with hearing loss, announced today the departure of the director of audiology. Dr. Teresa “Terry” Zwolan, Ph.D., CCC-A, is joining Cochlear Americas as Director of Audiology Access and Standard of Care. She’ll be leading new initiatives to improve access to audiology services and reimbursement specific to hearing implants.

“While we’re sad to see Dr. Zwolan leave the Hearing First team, we look forward to the meaningful work she’ll continue to do to support children who are deaf or hard of hearing,” said Dr. Teresa Caraway, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, LSLS Cert. AVT, CEO of Hearing First. “Hearing First and Cochlear Americas have a shared dedication to improving access and promoting high standards of care for families of children with hearing loss. We recognize the wonderful opportunity in her new role to leverage her specialized knowledge and skills to continue to create a positive impact on hearing healthcare.”

Dr. Zwolan has been a valued member of the Hearing First team. She joined following her retirement from the University of Michigan, where she served as a professor, Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and the Director of the Cochlear Implant Program.

“Hearing First appreciates Terry’s leadership in establishing new learning experiences focused on pediatric audiology,” said Dr. Caraway. “Together, we’ve laid a strong foundation and we’re excited to continue these offerings to improve the practice of pediatric audiology to support families seeking listening and spoken language outcomes. On behalf of everyone at Hearing First, we wish Terry all the best in her new role and look forward to further collaboration in new and expanded ways.”

Hearing First is a subsidiary of the Oberkotter Foundation, a private foundation supporting opportunities for children who are deaf or hard of hearing to learn to listen and talk for over 35 years.
