At Hearing First, our goal is to equip parents and professionals with the essential knowledge and skills to produce improved outcomes for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

On our website, we share key information about Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) and videos that celebrate the terrific outcomes families today are experiencing on their LSL journey.

Coming soon to Hearing First are more opportunities for both parents and professionals to enhance their LSL knowledge and skills. We recognize a particular need in the LSL community for professional opportunities related to coaching and mentoring in LSL practice. This includes improving coaching skills to support parents during LSL sessions as well as coaching and mentoring professionals seeking to improve their LSL practice.

Hearing First is preparing to offer coaching and mentoring services in a range of learning experiences. Our coaching and mentoring philosophy and model is rooted in the research demonstrating numerous benefits associated with a strengths-based coaching approach.

This month while at Early Hearing Detection & Intervention annual meeting (EHDI) 2016, we’re launching an introduction to this approach in collaboration with our colleagues at The Children’s Cochlear Implant Center at UNC-Chapel Hill. Kathryn Wilson, Coaching and Mentoring Leader with Hearing First, and collaborators from The Children's Cochlear Implant Center at UNC, Hannah Eskridge, Director, and Lillian Henderson, Clinic Manager for Speech, will present Awakening the Possibilities through Strengths-Based Coaching, highlighting and applying
strengths-based coaching when partnering with parents.
